We know you’ve seen them—vibrant purple scooters whizzing past on city streets, parked in neat rows. Maybe you’ve even taken a ride on one yourself.

This customer spotlight features a brand that’s become a staple across Australian cities, changing the game for urban commuters. Meet Beam Mobility - Australia and New Zealand’s largest micromobility company.

Beam is on a mission to get people out of cars and onto scooters, making cities flow better for everyone. By envisioning a better way to navigate urban areas, Beam has emerged as a global leader in micromobility, operating e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-mopeds in more than 100 cities across Asia Pacific.

While their e-scooters may be familiar, what’s less known is how their innovation behind the scenes has propelled them to become a global phenomenon.

Beam's e-mobility spotlight

Beam thrives on ingenuity, consistently pushing the boundaries of what's possible in micromobility. By anchoring their strategy around sustainability, safety, and community, Beam has built solutions that scale around the globe.

Sustainability

70% of the world’s population is predicted to live in cities by 2030. Meaning more affordable, efficient, and eco-friendly ways to get from A to B are needed.  Beam proposes a future of mobility that is both electric and shared.

Helping commuters leave their car behind: Since January this year, Beam riders have saved a whopping 1,333 tonnes of carbon emissions across Australia and New Zealand. In Beam's annual rider survey, over 50% of riders across ANZ admitted they would have opted for a car if e-scooters weren't an option.

Going further for the climate: In 2021, Beam offset 18,103 tonnes of CO2 emissions. In 2022, they enforced their Reduction Action Plan to reduce emissions from within their operations and supply chain. Now, they’re going even further for the climate - pledging to be Carbon Negative by 2025.

Community

Mixing global technological expertise with local knowledge, Beam is able to translate their live data into insights for how they can improve urban mobility and reduce congestion.

Nurturing night-time economies: After being introduced to Brisbane in 2021, Beam's e-scooters quickly became a crucial part of Brisbane's night-time economy, accounting for 15% of all trips between 10 pm and 6 am. Feedback from riders outlined the availability of e-scooters allowed them to choose to avoid night-time waits at bus stops, or walking in the dark.

Powering big moments: Micromobility has made some of our cities’ biggest moments more accessible. For Canberra’s inaugural Flight Drone Skyshow - over 5,500 trips were taken by 2,500 riders, travelling a total of 11,000 km on Beams during the 3 day event. Helping to minimise traffic congestion and parking issues.

Safety

Beam’s e-scooters and e-bikes leverage built-in, updateable technology that can be harnessed to deliver laser-targeted solutions not possible in current modes of transport like cars.

AI-powered speed limiting technology: Beam was the first operator across Australia and New Zealand to introduce footpath detection and speed-limiting technology to riders across the region. This innovative tech uses onboard cameras to detect city infrastructure—like roads, bike lanes, and footpaths to adjust speed accordingly, bringing an additional level of enforcement to cities.

Upgrades for safety, inclusiveness and durability: Earlier this year, Beam introduced their new Apollo Lite, marking the region’s first significant upgrade in e-bike hardware. Retaining the safety features and IoT technology of Beam’s existing e-bikes and e-scooters while introducing new elements - like a more adjustable seat, and a lighter frame - for enhanced inclusiveness and accessibility.

We are proud to support Beam in their transformation of the commuter market. As their logistics partner, we ensure that Beam's innovative scooters reach their destinations efficiently and sustainably.

Innovative portal

As you can imagine, inventory management is a key challenge for Beam. Having a platform that provides real-time shipment tracking and simplifies delivery management, allows Beam to focus on what they do best: innovating and enhancing urban mobility.

Beam Mobility

"Visibility was a big challenge for us prior to partnering with Explorate. Having far better visibility lead times, and certainty around service delivery windows is such a big bonus. Previous forwarders would require a lot of manual management nd follow up to ensure google sheets were up to date with the latest shipment info. Explorate takes a lot of the guesswork out of it" — Sam Haslett, Supply Chain Manager (ANZ) Beam Mobility.

With our platform in their tech stack, the team at Beam can streamline their workflow, ensuring their next step towards efficiency and cost reduction is crystal clear.

Explorate makes it easy to track, search, and share supply chain updates at a glance, stay alerted to issues or tasks, and resolve them in-app with your Explorate operator.
